FOOTBALL TAROT

Where Football Meets
The Arcane

Where Sport Meets
The Arcane

The Football Tarot project is a global collaboration that unites sport and mysticism through the lens of 82 international illustrators and designers. Each artist created a football-themed card, featuring icons like Messi and Cristiano, and concepts like the Own-Goal, and Jogo Bonito.

Traditionally, a tarot deck has 78 cards. Our deck includes three alternate versions for a total of 81 unique cards, plus a distinct visual identity developed by David Garcia. The result is a one-of-a-kind tarot deck that takes you through the Fool’s journey from the perspective of each artist’s unique style. The project began in 2022, so some cards are already slightly dated but they still hold up well.

Football Tarot is set to launch on Kickstarter in mid 2026, with production of physical cards, decks, booklets, and more, with all proceeds going to charity.

Below there are two interactive experiences that allow you to further explore the world of football tarot, from drawing your own spreads to discovering the intersection between astrology and tarot.

The Football Tarot drawing experience (below) supports two spread modes, switchable mid-session:

Penalty Kick — Single Card: One card. One moment of clarity. Built for urgent questions or daily reflection, the tarot equivalent of stepping up to the spot with everything on the line. The draw is immediate and unambiguous.

Triple-Sub — Three Cards: Past, present, future. Three cards self-select in sequence, land side by side, and flip in unison. Used at crossroads, when something is ending, something is present, and something is approaching.

Tarot and the Zodiac:
The Celestial Formations

The sky watches the pitch, always. Twelve constellations circling the stadium of existence, twelve archetypes that govern the tides of personality. In the cards, as in the stars, we find ourselves reflected. The zodiac is football’s invisible formation, players positioned not by managers but by the cosmos.

Each sign brings its character: the fierce attack of Aries, Taurus’s stubborn defense, and Gemini’s fluid positional switches. When astrologers connected these celestial energies to the tarot’s Major Arcana, they created a perfect through-ball between heaven and earth. The zodiac assigns each human a cosmic shirt number; the tarot reveals how they wear it. To understand the cards through the zodiac is to see the game from the perspective of the stars, where time stretches beyond seasons and leagues. Some footballers transcend their astrological programming; these are the ones who make us believe in magic.

Remember: The planets do not determine the result, just as the pre-match analysis does not score the goals. They merely suggest the energies in play. Like the card-reader, the player must still decide what to do with the cosmic pass they’ve been given. The mystic and the midfielder both know this truth: destiny may determine the pitch, but free will decides how you play on it.
